Dr Zoppa completed his Bachelor of Science degree with distinction at the University of Manitoba. He then worked for a pharmaceutical company for two years and completed one year in the faculty of Pharmacy also at the University of Manitoba. Although he greatly enjoyed his experience, he decided his ultimate goal was to become a physician so he then completed his Doctor of Medicine degree at the University of Manitoba. He then completed his Residency in Family Medicine at the St Boniface training site, where he won first prize for his oral presentation about physician health.
He has since worked in Selkirk in acute medicine for 13 years with specialities in dialysis, personal care homes, surgical assists, neonatal medicine, deliveries, full spectrum office medicine, skin procedures, and respiratory medicine. He subsequently achieved the Fellowship designation awarded to a minority of high achieving physicians in family medicine. He has worked in emergency medicine and hospital medicine as well. He ultimately developed through his interactions with patients a special passion for treatment of obesity and chronic health conditions. He thus undertook training in Obesity Medicine and weight management and recently wrote the board exam as a Diplomate in the American Board of Obesity Medicine. He also then developed a further interest in cosmetic medicine and obtained certification in neuromodulator injection and filler injection.
Dr Zoppa has been heavily involved in medical training and is a Lecturer in the Dept of Family Medicine, he started the Physician Assistant training program locally, and was approved by the Canadian Medical Association to start Selkirk as an approved training site for PA students. He has taught countless residents and PA students. He was also in the IERHA pharmacy committee for years. He was part of the Regional Standards Committee for years and ultimately served for a time as its committee chair.
